I absolutely agree, Ed. While I appreciate Tony's help and work I also would rather filter the display than the recorder. Also when I got home I had to manually re-enter all the blacklisted domains into my laptops instance of Firefox. Some kind of online blacklist store that syncs across devices would be helpful.

I agree that the Recorder blacklist is a potentially useful workaround in this context, but I have two concerns. First, I'd rather be able to filter what's displayed via my Root worm, not cut off what's recorded at the source. At some point, it may be useful to have all of the data from ad servers and Gmail refreshes, no matter how useless it seems at the moment, and you won't be able to recreate it.

Second, I tend to agree with Steve Gillmor's thesis that relying on explicit gestures (like entering domains in a blacklist) is ultimately problematic. They're labor-intensive, subject to gaming, and don't scale well. (Which leads me right back to filtering the display, not the Recorder.)

I know Tony has a lot of spare time on his hands, so perhaps he could add this to his list of projects ;-)

Ah excellent, thanks Tony. I've added a bunch of them into my blacklist now and I guess in a few days they will be filtered out from the counts.

Hi Paul. I'm the lead developer at Root Vaults. I'm glad to see that you are enjoying this new feature. The filter that you're asking for is already available; but as part of the recorder. Click "Tools, Attention Recorder Options" and you will find the "Domain Blacklist" tab. Each user wants different settings, but it sounds from your post like you want to place "pagead2.googlesyndication.com" and "mail.google.com" in that list.
