Over the radio this morning Ray Darcy said that an Taoiseach Bertie Ahern had announced the Irish general elections were to be held on the 24th of May.   • I agree, I'm going to be out of the country during the elections. I'm not happy about the short notice.
  • That's the current government of Ireland for you Paul. If you're young they really don't care because let's face it someday you'll be older and then young-facing policies won't appeal to you so why bother? Personally I'm sick of it and won't be voting this year as I've lost faith in the Irish democracy to get things done. :(
  • Unfortunately, this is all too typical of modern Ireland. It beats me why they have reverted to a Thursday. After all, they held the elections on a Friday some years back so that people who lived away from home (students, graduates and those who never transferred their viote) would have a realistic opportunity to get home in time to vote.
  • I wouldn't expect anything less than rushed and half arsed from the government here!
